The Reclaimed Habitat Eco Tour - Disused Railway Line Walk on the Old Great Northern Railway
This walk follows the wildlife corridor of the former Great Northern Railway, which was dismantled and turned into a footpath in the mid 1980's, the tracks have been removed leaving a fantastic trail where they once ran, passing through the old railway track route and the "ghost town" Railway Platforms of the Old Crouch End Station.

Starting at Finsbury Park, the walk follows the leafy route of the former railway through cuttings and across embankments to Highgate and Crouch End. The route then continues through Queens Wood and Highgate Wood, two remnants of the forest of Middlesex the great tract of woodland that once covered the whole of the North London area. On the route of this walk we see how nature has reclaimed these industrial tracks and learn about the creatures that now live there including two rare species of tunneling bee.
Beyond the woods the walk resumes along the course of another branch of the former railway to the sprawling Victorian Alexander Palace. Known to Londoners as Ally Pally, it was built in 1873 as a "people's palace", a leisure and exhibition space, and a rival to Crystal Palace in South London. There is a great pub which is part of the Alexandra Palace where you can finish for a well earned beer and meal.
This is a great urban eco tour, you will see that London is greener than you think!!
