Giving Back to London and Treading Lightly
As we practice good business ethics - we give back. 10% of all Green London Tour Fees go to St Mungo’s, “Putting Down Roots” Project, an organic gardening project for London’s Homeless.
St Mungo’s is London’s largest charity for homeless people, helping thousands of people to make permanent life changes every year.
Putting Down Roots aims break the vicious circle faced by many homeless people by helping them back into productive work roles through this voluntary project.
Getting close to nature has recognised benefits for well being, and this project engages its volunteers in structured organic gardening, providing training and qualifications.
Most importantly it gives the volunteers a reason to get up in the morning, and somewhere to go. A reason not to get drunk, a reason not to abuse substances, and a productive structured environment to complete rewarding work in.
Last year 125 volunteers participated in a total of 1,981 gardening sessions over 23 sites, working 11,209 hours. The Putting Down Roots team also have a magnificent allotment in North London.
Green London is proud to support Putting Down Roots.
Tread Lightly
We aim to tread as lightly on this earth as possible, whilst covering as much ground as we can. After all everywhere is walking distance, if you have enough time!. :0)Our Policy:
- We do walking tours, the original low carbon method of transport
- We only do walking tours in the UK and parts of Europe accessible by Land or Sea
- All of our hike locations around London are accessible by public transport and we use this to transport our customers
- On our tours people learn about nature and are inspired to protect it
- We strongly consider our environmental impact in our relationships with our suppliers and distributors, (this website for example is run by 1and1, who's servers utilise energy reduction techniques and renewable energy programmes)
- While we don't sit at home warming our hands just from the heat of one candle, we recognise the need for a more proportionate response to the environmental crisis mankind is beginning to face, and are actively trying to be part of the solution
